Being a marine biologist (or anything natural sciences related) is a career of passion. We see things that mainstream folks miss, and are driven to create positive change for our planet. When our calling becomes our profession, it can be a slippery slope to being able differentiate between who you are as a person, and the job title you hold.
The allure of wild places like the Galápagos is undeniable, but it comes with a set of tough questions. For instance, how do we balance our thirst for adventure with the need to protect these fragile ecosystems? Is it ethical to prioritize personal fulfillment over the well-being of the planet and its inhabitants?
After years of lurking from the sidelines I realized I would never have my answer until we actually did it, so last year we dove in head first and got B-Corp certified to hopefully learn new ideas on how to make Waterlust better. This article is an overview of what our experience was like and my personal, unfiltered perspective on B-Corp certification.
