SpongeBob was created by marine biologist Stephen Hillenburg, who used art to teach kids about the marine species and ecosystems around them. With its origin in marine science education, the series has always had a deep-rooted connection to the sea. This connection led Paramount and Nickelodeon to launch SpongeBob SquarePants: Operation Sea Change, a global conservation and sustainability initiative to help protect the home of the very creatures that inspired Bikini Bottom. We created this collection in partnership with Paramount Consumer Products to support the Operation Sea Change initiative as well as advocate for the importance of art in inspiring environmental stewardship.
Our signature fabric is sleek, soft, and luxurious, while strong, substantial, and resilient. It’s got a gummy, supportive, and smoothing stretchiness you’ll love, comfortably hugging you in all the right places.
88% Repreve® RPET (recycled polyester made from post-consumer plastic bottles), 12% spandex
10% of profits from your purchase of SpongeBob’s Bikini Bottom gear is donated to the Ocean Institute, the marine education organization where Stephen Hillenburg taught and created the earliest version of SpongeBob's character. Proceeds help fund programs that bring underserved students from Title I schools across California to visit the Ocean Institute for hands-on STEM education at no or reduced cost. The program is incredibly impactful as many of the student participants have never seen the ocean or been on a boat before.

The SpongeBob SquarePants creative team did such an incredible job designing the ecosystem of Bikini Bottom with its distinctive bright colors, iconic flower-shaped clouds, and buoyant mood that our team wanted to embody it when designing the SpongeBob Bikini Bottom collection. Although a fictional world, Bikini Bottom and its citizens are inspired by real underwater critters and places, many of which can be found in the intertidal zone.
Besides being huge fans of the show for its creativity, positivity, and forward-thinking themes, we love SpongeBob SquarePants as an example of how art can support environmental science and conservation. Art can provide an opportunity to instill emotion and humanity into science communication while maintaining its scientific integrity. Art can speak for animals, ecosystems, and communities who may not be able to speak for themselves. Art can transform apathy into enthusiasm, enthusiasm into action, and action into change. And in special cases when an artistic expression becomes widely popular like the animated adventures of a charismatic sponge, it can inspire an entire generation.
The Ocean Institute, where Stephen Hillenburg taught, was founded in 1977. It is a community-based non-profit organization that educates students and public visitors through over 60 marine science and maritime history programs. The campus is located on 2.4 acres in the Dana Point Harbor, adjacent to a Marine Conservation Area, making it an ideal site for hands-on learning about the sea.
“Waterlust blends their passion for the ocean with an artistic expression from which others can enjoy and learn. This model embodies the spirit of one of our former marine science instructors, Stephen Hillenburg. We’re honored to be a beneficiary of Waterlust’s funding program to foster experiences that will develop the next generation of ocean defenders…and may even kickstart the next Waterlust or Hillenburg!”

I love these swim pants. I paddle board and they stay up. I also love the phone pocket.
I thought I would have a much harder time finding quality swim leggings but I discovered this brand right away and after continuing to search they were the best option for multiple reasons. The print/color of these leggings is so vibrant! The quality feels good and they are very comfortable. I appreciated that I could cut them to the length I wanted which was relatively easy to do, but I am glad that I own a pair of fabric scissors which helped with the quality of the cut I made. I love that these are made from recycled materials, donate to ocean research, are chlorine resistant, have high UPF rating, a gusset crotch, and pockets! They hit me right at/just above my belly button which is good enough but I do wish these had a higher waist. I have not yet worn them in the water but I can't wait to do so! I'm happy that I can still look good while protecting my tattoos and skin from the sun. Their customer service is also very responsive and helpful.
Amazing quality and great customer service! Arrived quickly too!

Can I send a photo?
I love these bikini bottom sponge bob leggings!
They fit amazingly well, slightly different than my last pair.
I’m a proud owner of 2 full swim suits (whale shark and turtle), the spring leggings and a shark hoodie.
When I can afford it I may buy another pair!
These are incredibly functional leggings for all season swimming, mat and sup yoga, ( I taught my online classes in them today), trail running and fun fashion.
Thank you
The good news pants aren’t square either.
