Characteristic spots and stripes adorn the largest fish in the sea forming an intricate pattern, like a warrior painted for battle. Scientists use these distinctive markings to identify individual whale sharks. Like a fingerprint, each is as unique and special as the last.

Whale sharks (Rhincodon typus) are fish, not whales - allowing them to hold the esteemed title of "largest fish in the sea" (since sharks are fish too!). These charismatic creatures can reach lengths of 12 meters (40 feet) or more! Despite their large size, they feed on some of the smallest organisms in the sea, plankton. Hanging vertically in the water column they're able to suction feed and filter these tiny organisms through their gill rakers much like a giant vacuum cleaner pulls dust and dirt from a kitchen floor, filtering the fragments into its chamber within.
Unfortunately, approximately 100 million sharks are killed every year by humans, through direct targeted fishing efforts as well as unintended bycatch from other fisheries. The whale shark is one species of shark that is particularly vulnerable to this commercial fishing due to their high value in international trade, in addition to their highly migratory nature and normally low abundance. Research into the lives of these gentle giants can help us to manage their populations and keep these magnificent fish in the ocean where they belong.
The Marine Megafauna Foundation is helping to shed light on the population structure, migratory patterns, and the conservation requirements of these threatened sharks. Created in 2009, they aim to research, protect and conserve the large populations of marine megafauna (large marine species) found along the Mozambican coastline. Almost all whale sharks encountered by divers are juveniles and most are males. Where the school-bus-sized mature sharks swim, what they eat, and where the females give birth has long been a mystery, however their team is now very close to making these discoveries. 10% of profits from your purchase will go to the Marine Megafauna Foundation for satellite tags that are needed to track the movements of these large female whale sharks.
“Waterlust's support provides critical seed funding for us to rapidly develop and implement whale shark conservation projects in areas where this globally-endangered species is most at risk. This includes Mozambique, where our research and awareness work helped the government decide to fully protect whale sharks just a few weeks ago. We love working with a company that is so committed to making a positive change in the world.”

I have worn these leggings in Hawaii while snorkeling and just wore them rafting on the Salmon River in Idaho. They provide great sun protection and are so comfortable!
I bought the whale shark swim top and leggings in a medium for a snorkeling trip to the Hamanasi resort in Belize. I was thrilled when they came with a week to spare for the trip. But then I realized I needed a large. Although Waterlust was great about taking them back to exchange I resigned myself to the probability that I wouldn't get the new ones in time to use them. But I wrote and told my original contact, Patrick, what was going on and how much I looked forward to having them for the trip and somehow, he was able to make it happen! Just for context, I'm 5'5" 150 lbs and the large fit great. I love them so much! I wore them everyday. They are sturdy enough to feel slimming and secure but light enough that I was very comfortable in tropical weather. Easy to put on and take off. They are gorgeous and my local guide was as impressed as I am with the conservation efforts of the company. They are working hard to preserve the gorgeous Mesoamerican reef. I left them long for the sun protection so was able to get by with less sunscreen - a plus even though we use reef safe sunscreen. So I'm super impressed with the Waterlust company and I absolutely love the gear!
I feel like a fish Goddess in these. They're super comfy, dry fast and look incredible. Highly recommend!
Loved loved them. One suggestion.. swim bra could have individual cups for more comfort. Just a thought.
I ordered this set many months ago. Due to some issues with supply chain, it was delayed. Waterlust was awesome in keeping me posted and when I got the set, it was all I wanted and then some. This is a great set and I will be utilizing it a lot. Thank you Waterlust!!!
Arrived just in time for a trip to Hawai’i. Size medium fits great for 5’8” 141lbs with a 33” inseam length. No cutting required to fit long legs. They are not quick dry, but will dry after 20 minutes in the dryer on low or hung up over night. Very comfortable. Would work great for hiking. Keeps you from getting sunburned while snorkeling.
