ADVOCATE APPAREL INSPIRED BY THE LARGEST FISH IN THE SEA,THE WHALE SHARK (RHINCODON TYPUS)

Marine Megafauna Foundation LogoWhale sharks (Rhincodon typus) are fish, not whales - allowing them to hold the esteemed title of "largest fish in the sea" (since sharks are fish too!). These charismatic creatures can reach lengths of 12 meters (40 feet) or more! Despite their large size, they feed on some of the smallest organisms in the sea, plankton. Hanging vertically in the water column they're able to suction feed and filter these tiny organisms through their gill rakers much like a giant vacuum cleaner pulls dust and dirt from a kitchen floor, filtering the fragments into its chamber within. Unfortunately, approximately 100 million sharks are killed every year by humans, through direct targeted fishing efforts as well as unintended bycatch from other fisheries. The whale shark is one species of shark that is particularly vulnerable to this commercial fishing due to their high value in international trade, in addition to their highly migratory nature and normally low abundance.

Research into the lives of these gentle giants can help us to manage their populations and keep these magnificent fish in the ocean where they belong. The Marine Megafauna Foundation is one group that is helping to shed light on the population structure, migratory patterns and the conservation requirements of these threatened sharks. Created in 2009, they aim to research, protect and conserve the large populations of marine megafauna (large marine species) found along the Mozambican coastline. Almost all whale sharks encountered by divers are juveniles and most are males. Where the school-bus-sized mature sharks swim, what they eat and where the females give birth has long been a mystery, however their team is now very close to making these discoveries. 10% of profits from your purchase will go to the Marine Megafauna Foundation for satellite tags that are needed to track the movements of these large female whale sharks.

Love my new Waterlust purchases!

I just bought 3 items from this great company, a Whale Shark sun suit, and matching 8” shorts and sport top in Abalone. The fit of all 3 pieces is very good, especially the sun suit. I did swim in the shorts/top on Sunday and it was very comfortable under my spring suit. Would say the garments seem to run a little large, do definitely keep this in mind when ordering.

Stunning feel-good swimwear for water and watersports lovers

I'm in love. I received as presents a long sleeve swimwear - whale-shark design - and leggings - sunkissed design. They both fit me perfectly and look and feel high quality. I intend to use the swimsuit for freediving which will be great as a light second skin. And of course, to top it all off, they are made with recycled plastic bottles and the team seems to always strive to lighten the load on our planet. I highly recommend!

Wife loves it!

I purchased the Whale Shark Swimsuit for my wife for our upcoming whale shark diving experience in Cabo. She looks great in it and basically hasn’t taken it off she’s so excited. Fantastic quality! We love Waterlust’s mission and their vision and focus to help the world through donations and research. Got a few extras with this; matching scrunchie, headband etc to get FREE Priority shipping which arrived quickly. Enjoy!

Amazing and beautiful!

This sun suit (combined with the whale shark leggings) are great to wear under wetsuits. I just started taking scuba diving lessons and my whale shark skins were perfect for layering under my suit! The quality is great, I'm glad it's made from recycled materials. Can't wait to try other Waterlust products in the future!!

Whale Shark Swim Suit

Absolutely love. My 6year old daughter says I’m going to be camouflaged when I go for a swim in the ocean. Only criticism is the neck is a little tight for my liking but I’ll get used to it after a few wears. It’s perfect for snorkeling or surfing and will protect my arms, back and neck from the sun.
