Welcome to the 'Pod'

I can't express how excited I was when my sun suit came in and was able to test it out in the waters. Being 5'4 and weighing close to 160lbs, size M for Mighty fit snug like a glove and hugged me in all the right places all the while smoothing out my love-handles. With even room left for some stretching! I definitely got some glances as I strutted through the locker room on my way to the pool (with the lack of salt-water in the desert, chlorine testing was my only option for now). Swimming in the water was very comfortable- with the suit supporting me as I stroked through the chlorinated H2O. If whale sharks traveled in pods/herds, I can only hopelessly fantasize about being recognized as kin. Safe to say I love the suit! After testing, there is minimal thread fraying with the print remaining pristine. Other than loving my suit, I am utterly grateful for what this store stands for by selling products with the environment, and its inhabitants, in mind.

Perfect!

Great cause, great fit, beautiful print - I love this suit. Plan on wearing it paddle boarding and out with my students when we study producers and consumers at the beach next month.

Love it so far

Haven't used it yet, but it fits fairly well, sadly the arms are too long and can't be adjusted like the leggings can. This won't prevent me from using it though. A lot of residue left from the sticker but hopefully it washes out.

Great suit, great service!

I am 5'9", 150lb and got the medium. The print is amazing and I got so many compliments. I wore it diving and felt very protected. The neck is a little tight at first, but once you get in the water it's fine. If you have a long body, might want to size up. I needed this for a trip but got a backorder notification right after placing the order and the amazing people at Waterlust helped make sure it got to me in time by going above and beyond! Highly recommend supporting such a great company.

ADVOCATE APPAREL INSPIRED BY THE LARGEST FISH IN THE SEA,THE WHALE SHARK (RHINCODON TYPUS)

Whale shark printed sun suit front, side and back view with a whale shark in the background

Marine Megafauna Foundation LogoWhale sharks (Rhincodon typus) are fish, not whales - allowing them to hold the esteemed title of "largest fish in the sea" (since sharks are fish too!). These charismatic creatures can reach lengths of 12 meters (40 feet) or more! Despite their large size, they feed on some of the smallest organisms in the sea, plankton. Hanging vertically in the water column they're able to suction feed and filter these tiny organisms through their gill rakers much like a giant vacuum cleaner pulls dust and dirt from a kitchen floor, filtering the fragments into its chamber within. Unfortunately, approximately 100 million sharks are killed every year by humans, through direct targeted fishing efforts as well as unintended bycatch from other fisheries. The whale shark is one species of shark that is particularly vulnerable to this commercial fishing due to their high value in international trade, in addition to their highly migratory nature and normally low abundance.

Research into the lives of these gentle giants can help us to manage their populations and keep these magnificent fish in the ocean where they belong. The Marine Megafauna Foundation is one group that is helping to shed light on the population structure, migratory patterns and the conservation requirements of these threatened sharks. Created in 2009, they aim to research, protect and conserve the large populations of marine megafauna (large marine species) found along the Mozambican coastline. Almost all whale sharks encountered by divers are juveniles and most are males. Where the school-bus-sized mature sharks swim, what they eat and where the females give birth has long been a mystery, however their team is now very close to making these discoveries. 10% of profits from your purchase will go to the Marine Megafauna Foundation for satellite tags that are needed to track the movements of these large female whale sharks.
