Advocate Apparel Inspired by the Floridan Aquifer and springs

Florida evokes daydreams of white sandy beaches and palm trees – but perhaps the most magnificent water in Florida lies just out of sight. In the Sunshine State, water fills the limestone cavities of the Floridan aquifer beneath our feet. This is the source of drinking water for 92% of Floridians. But this water is not always hidden - where it finds its way to the surface, it forms marvelous freshwater springs, which support not only human life in Florida but also incredibly diverse and unique aquatic ecosystems. In fact, Florida is home to the highest density of freshwater springs in the world – more than 1,000 of them dot the karst landscape of the sunny peninsula.

Unfortunately, increasing development and growing pressures on water resources are having negative impacts on Florida’s springs. Over the past 15 or 20 years, Florida’s burgeoning population has had a plethora of consequences for the springs, namely decreases in flow due to over-pumping and a transition from native underwater grasses to nasty algae. Nitrate levels in the springs have skyrocketed and ecosystem dynamics have changed as food webs are altered.

Love, my SunSuit

Hi … i’ve worn my sun suit a couple of times now and it feels great in the water. I ordered a small based on your size chart and the models, I’m 5‘7“ and 135 pounds. It fits snuggly and is a little difficult to zip up around my shoulder blades. It’s also tight around the neck so I’ve left the zipper down about 4 inches. I thought about exchanging it for a medium, but I am wondering if that would be too big. What do you think? Marie Riley

I did not like swimming in this

I am 5'2" and weight 125 pounds I bought the size M. I bought it for lap swimming in a pool. It seemed to fit well enough to swim in. However, my swimming experience was not good. The water went up the sleeves making me feel like I was swimming with weights. After 40 minutes or so it started to bother the front of my armpits so I don't think I could go down a size. I think the material is just too heavy for pool swimming and wouldn't recommend it. Honestly, it was exhausting. I really wanted to like this but I cannot recommend it.

Hi Eve,

Thanks for taking the time to send us this feedback! It actually sounds like the M may be too big for you and going down a size would likely take care of the issues you were experienced. The material is very stretchy and adheres to the body with the correct fit. We have a ton of our customers who use our sun suits for open water and lap swimming, though we totally understand if the material was not what you were looking for!

We would be happy to send you a S to try out in the pool and see if you prefer the fit to the M. If not, no worries we can set up a return for a full refund of the sun suit. Shoot us an email at hello@waterlust.com and we will take care if this for you :)

love it

i bought this after looking for something to wear in the water to cover up and prevent sun damage while also looking cute. i bought a medium and it fits very well - my measurements are 36-29-38 and i’m 5’7” with a short torso; it bunches slightly in the midsection (more room for the long torso friends) and surprisingly snug on my hips - i think if i had an inch or two more i’d want to size up, despite the listed measurements on the site. i was a bit concerned with no bust support, but it compresses enough to be super comfortable swimming/walking/paddling etc. the neckline is SLIGHTLY bothersome for my sensory issues but not tight enough to be unwearable. would recommend :)

Great quality

Excellent quality, this is my third piece/set from this company and I couldn’t be happier. Fits true to size, solid material, quality stitching.

TLDR I Bought An Extra

I have been looking for this style of suit for years--but brands wouldn't carry extended sizes, or the torso was way too short to accomodate both my height and mid-fat body, or the arms were too tight... But finally, I have the suit I've wanted!! I have only two gripes (small ones): first, the seam going down the back isn't centered on the gusset so I'll probably have some wedgie issues once I'm in the water; and secondly, if you have sensory issues, the seams might be a little bit itchy. I was able to adjust to it but if that's a major concern for you, just know you'll need a work around.

The zipper pull is a very generous length, but for me and my mobility I'll need to get creative or get help zipping up. Not a big deal, but something I noticed.

The pattern is stunning, the fit is pretty good, I love the thumbholes, and I'm just so excited to take my two suits with me on an anniversary trip that's coming up. Because I'll be in the water non-stop, I bought a second suit so I always have an extra available!
