SpongeBob was created by marine biologist Stephen Hillenburg, who used art to teach kids about the marine species and ecosystems around them. With its origin in marine science education, the series has always had a deep-rooted connection to the sea. This connection led Paramount and Nickelodeon to launch SpongeBob SquarePants: Operation Sea Change, a global conservation and sustainability initiative to help protect the home of the very creatures that inspired Bikini Bottom. We created this collection in partnership with Paramount Consumer Products to support the Operation Sea Change initiative as well as advocate for the importance of art in inspiring environmental stewardship.
Our signature fabric is sleek, soft, and luxurious, while strong, substantial, and resilient. It’s got a gummy, supportive, and smoothing stretchiness you’ll love, comfortably hugging you in all the right places.
88% Repreve® RPET (recycled polyester made from post-consumer plastic bottles), 12% spandex
5% of sales from your purchase of SpongeBob’s Bikini Bottom gear is donated to the Ocean Institute, the marine education organization where Stephen Hillenburg taught and created the earliest version of SpongeBob's character. Proceeds help fund programs that bring underserved students from Title I schools across California to visit the Ocean Institute for hands-on STEM education at no or reduced cost. The program is incredibly impactful as many of the student participants have never seen the ocean or been on a boat before.

The SpongeBob SquarePants creative team did such an incredible job designing the ecosystem of Bikini Bottom with its distinctive bright colors, iconic flower-shaped clouds, and buoyant mood that our team wanted to embody it when designing the SpongeBob Bikini Bottom collection. Although a fictional world, Bikini Bottom and its citizens are inspired by real underwater critters and places, many of which can be found in the intertidal zone.
Besides being huge fans of the show for its creativity, positivity, and forward-thinking themes, we love SpongeBob SquarePants as an example of how art can support environmental science and conservation. Art can provide an opportunity to instill emotion and humanity into science communication while maintaining its scientific integrity. Art can speak for animals, ecosystems, and communities who may not be able to speak for themselves. Art can transform apathy into enthusiasm, enthusiasm into action, and action into change. And in special cases when an artistic expression becomes widely popular like the animated adventures of a charismatic sponge, it can inspire an entire generation.
The Ocean Institute, where Stephen Hillenburg taught, was founded in 1977. It is a community-based non-profit organization that educates students and public visitors through over 60 marine science and maritime history programs. The campus is located on 2.4 acres in the Dana Point Harbor, adjacent to a Marine Conservation Area, making it an ideal site for hands-on learning about the sea.
“Waterlust blends their passion for the ocean with an artistic expression from which others can enjoy and learn. This model embodies the spirit of one of our former marine science instructors, Stephen Hillenburg. We’re honored to be a beneficiary of Waterlust’s funding program to foster experiences that will develop the next generation of ocean defenders…and may even kickstart the next Waterlust or Hillenburg!”

I have a 27-28 inch waist but a 39 inch hip, putting me between the S and M sizes. I emailed customer support and they recommended going with M, which I believe was the right recommendation. The waist does not feel loose on me like I was worried about, and overall they fit snug and comfortable. Nothing shows through with the squat test either. Another thing I love about this fit is the length of the legs. They are so long! I'm only 5'5", yet somehow about half the leggings I buy end up looking like capris or high-waters on me. These give you all the length you need and more! I haven't decided yet if I will try hemming them, or if I will leave them raw so that when I wear my scuba boots it will provide extra length to tuck in under my heel.
I haven't had a chance to swim in them yet, but they feel like they will add a little bit of warmth when underwater, though not too much. I'm thinking they will work perfectly as a rash guard in 80°+ Caribbean Waters.
Had to have the Sponge Bob pattern! Ordered an L and it is identical in size to my L in another pattern.
SPONGEBOB SQUARE PANTS!!
I am 60 years old and I do not like to show my white 60 year old legs at the pool at the gym. I have tried other brands of swim pants and the have not fit right :( I love to two pairs that I purchased from Waterlust! I wore my SpongeBob outfit to my water Pilates aerobics class last night and everyone was asking where I had bought the outfit from. I got sooooo many compliments :) One thing I would like to suggest about the tops, I am a two time survivor of breast cancer and because of that I have one breast that is larger than the other. I would love it if you had the option to have removable pads in the top. I have put a pad inside of the smaller side but it tends to move around when I am swimming. I am thinking of cutting a slit on the inside of the top and see if it will stay put if it is between the material. I just ordered two more outfits this week and cannot wait for them to arrive!
I’m a scuba instructor + mermaid instructor trainer and having fun, comfy, and well made water apparel is a big plus. These leggies are soft and vibrant and will help you slip into your wetsuit, tail, or sport them without either!
Not to mention all the good that Waterlust does with their brand. Way to go!
I’m 200 lb, 5’7 (mostly legs!), and bought the XXL. They are long enough for my legs, fit in all the right places, and have…. Wait for it…. Pockets.
Pockets!
10/10 get them. They make me SO HAPPY.
I’m ready! I’m ready! I’m ready!
This is my 5th pair of leggings that I use when I go diving. They fit well. I am 5'7" and weight 134 pounds but still need a legendary size. They fit comfortably and protect my skin from the sun! My favorite part is that they come from plastic bottles as I despise single serve plastics.
I love that Leggings, I have 6 pairs, I wear that, every tome for snorkeling, running and training.
