Characteristic spots and stripes adorn the largest fish in the sea forming an intricate pattern, like a warrior painted for battle. Scientists use these distinctive markings to identify individual whale sharks. Like a fingerprint, each is as unique and special as the last.

Whale sharks (Rhincodon typus) are fish, not whales - allowing them to hold the esteemed title of "largest fish in the sea" (since sharks are fish too!). These charismatic creatures can reach lengths of 12 meters (40 feet) or more! Despite their large size, they feed on some of the smallest organisms in the sea, plankton. Hanging vertically in the water column they're able to suction feed and filter these tiny organisms through their gill rakers much like a giant vacuum cleaner pulls dust and dirt from a kitchen floor, filtering the fragments into its chamber within.
Unfortunately, approximately 100 million sharks are killed every year by humans, through direct targeted fishing efforts as well as unintended bycatch from other fisheries. The whale shark is one species of shark that is particularly vulnerable to this commercial fishing due to their high value in international trade, in addition to their highly migratory nature and normally low abundance. Research into the lives of these gentle giants can help us to manage their populations and keep these magnificent fish in the ocean where they belong.
The Marine Megafauna Foundation is helping to shed light on the population structure, migratory patterns, and the conservation requirements of these threatened sharks. Created in 2009, they aim to research, protect and conserve the large populations of marine megafauna (large marine species) found along the Mozambican coastline. Almost all whale sharks encountered by divers are juveniles and most are males. Where the school-bus-sized mature sharks swim, what they eat, and where the females give birth has long been a mystery, however their team is now very close to making these discoveries. 5% of sales from your purchase will go to the Marine Megafauna Foundation for satellite tags that are needed to track the movements of these large female whale sharks.
“Waterlust's support provides critical seed funding for us to rapidly develop and implement whale shark conservation projects in areas where this globally-endangered species is most at risk. This includes Mozambique, where our research and awareness work helped the government decide to fully protect whale sharks just a few weeks ago. We love working with a company that is so committed to making a positive change in the world.”

Solid material and I really like the print. Size fits, legs long enough for my 1,75 cm height.
Happy that I decided to order.
I ordered a M and an L in the leggings. I am currently beginning a workout regimen for a trip planned in December. The L fit better than the M but I didn't keep either because I am going to do my thing in the gym and then order again right before my trip. The leggings were not see-thru at either size when I bent over. I really like them along with the matching sun shirt. The shorts were great also but, again, I want to purchase after I lose the extra weight. The black leggings were plain but my BF has black leggings for when he goes deep sea fishing and I don't want him to grab mine by accident so I will buy a print fabric. I chose whale shark because when I Scuba, hopefully the print will deter sharks from eating me lol 🥹 the bikini tops I bought were XS and S. The XS fit well around the ribcage but the coverage was not great for my taste. The S had great coverage but the straps were not tight enough causing underboob slippage when I took my shirt off. I'm just not very big up top so it's a problem I run into frequently and I have a hard time finding the perfect swim top for me. I should prolly have them custom-made but who has the money for that? Anyway, I really liked everything I tried on and have made notes of all items that I liked. I took photos of everything so hopefully I can attach pix with this review. I already know what I will buy. I will purchase the leggings, 4" shorts and matching sun shirt. I'll probably pass on the swim top due to me already having tops that I like but the parrotfish print was gorgeous. One improvement I would like to see is a built-in gaiter for the sun shirt that can be pulled up over the bottom half of the face creating a ninja or hijab look. Sun protection and minimizing UVA/B exposure is very important to me and I have found shirts like that at Academy Sports by Magellan that give you the option of having your face completely covered. Those shirts were men's shirts tho. So an option for women would be great. That is very important for me on long fishing charter days, snorkeling, or leisurely scuba. I love the water but I don't want to sacrifice my looks lol. I'd rather not look like an old leather glove by the time I'm 40.
Brilliant
I have worn these leggings in Hawaii while snorkeling and just wore them rafting on the Salmon River in Idaho. They provide great sun protection and are so comfortable!
I bought the whale shark swim top and leggings in a medium for a snorkeling trip to the Hamanasi resort in Belize. I was thrilled when they came with a week to spare for the trip. But then I realized I needed a large. Although Waterlust was great about taking them back to exchange I resigned myself to the probability that I wouldn't get the new ones in time to use them. But I wrote and told my original contact, Patrick, what was going on and how much I looked forward to having them for the trip and somehow, he was able to make it happen! Just for context, I'm 5'5" 150 lbs and the large fit great. I love them so much! I wore them everyday. They are sturdy enough to feel slimming and secure but light enough that I was very comfortable in tropical weather. Easy to put on and take off. They are gorgeous and my local guide was as impressed as I am with the conservation efforts of the company. They are working hard to preserve the gorgeous Mesoamerican reef. I left them long for the sun protection so was able to get by with less sunscreen - a plus even though we use reef safe sunscreen. So I'm super impressed with the Waterlust company and I absolutely love the gear!
I feel like a fish Goddess in these. They're super comfy, dry fast and look incredible. Highly recommend!
