Spotted Eagle Ray Reversible Top

Educational resources & donation included with every purchase. Learn more.

Known for their beautiful and unique spot patterns, spotted eagle rays fill key roles in the marine ecosystem. As both predators and prey, they eat animals such as clams and conchs, while also being eaten by large sharks. Worldwide, more than one-quarter of marine rays are threatened with extinction from targeted fisheries, bycatch and loss of habitat.

Advocate Apparel Inspired by the spotted eagle ray (Aetobatus narinari)

It is illegal to fish for or kill this beautiful and charismatic ray in Florida waters, however they are not protected under federal laws and international protections are limited as well. The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), an organization that establishes the conservation status of species worldwide, lists them as near-threatened with a decreasing population trend.

In some countries, spotted eagle rays are harvested as food and are caught as bycatch (unintentional catch in commercial fisheries that target other species). Spotted eagle rays also face a variety of threats from habitat loss, harmful algal blooms, and entanglement in fishing gear. These threats, combined with their extremely low reproductive rate, make these rays vulnerable to population declines. To help create better conservation management plans for this species, Mote and other research institutions are defining the distribution, migration, feeding habits, growth rates, and reproductive biology of spotted eagle rays.

Great product, great company!

Fit is perfect. I wore them through an entire season of outside water aerobics and they still look new, very durable. Gave gift certificates to my friends so they can enjoy them too.

Cute!

I got this matching top to go with the leggings and wore the set for a week straight of snorkeling--super comfortable! The compression of the top gives it good support and the cut of the neckline is very cute. I'm 6'3" and ~185lbs, 36C. I ordered both a medium and large and kept the large. The top has a longer drying time than the leggings due to the double-layer of fabric, but the extra layer is what adds support, and despite not having cups or anything, a bit of modesty. Overall, great quality fabric and construction! Be careful about getting sunscreen on the black side, as it kind of picks up white streaks from that (at least w/thick mineral/reef-safe stuff)--but it washes well!

LOVE LOVE LOVE them

I recently ordered the top after searching for a swim top that would give some support and coverage when being active in the water, and after a friend recommended waterlust, I thought I'd give it a try. I have been wearing the two tops I have (eagle ray and cosmic coral) every single day since (both for working out and just during the day), and twice in the ocean, and already suggested them to two of my friends!

Two things that may be helpful for both waterlust and other ladies: a) I am a 38DD/E and ordered both a M and a L, and kept the M because it was giving me more support and I did not feel too confined. b) I am a bit chubby and have a relatively short thorax, so the top is a bit to long and rolls up on my rib cage when I move a lot. I fold the last inch or so over, which fixes the problem, and actually adds support and an accent to the top (but I wish that eventually, waterlust also has an option for a slightly shorter top).
