The coral reef ecosystems that cover our globe provide essential food and habitat to over 25% of all marine life. The parrotfish is a common animal found among these ecosystems and are a crucial keystone species who are responsible for cleaning the corals from harmful algae. The abundance of parrotfish can be related directly to the health of our coral reef ecosystems. 5% of sales will be donated to Reef Relief, a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving and protecting our coral reef ecosystem.
Our signature fabric is sleek, soft, and luxurious, while strong, substantial, and resilient. It's got a gummy, supportive, and smoothing stretchiness you'll love, comfortably hugging you in all the right places.
88% Repreve® RPET (recycled polyester made from post-consumer plastic bottles), 12% spandex
Safe, premium performance yarns: Our high-quality, fully traceable yarns are sourced through sustainable partners in the U.S. These materials meet rigorous chemical safety standards and are independently verified for over 1,000 harmful substances like BPA and PFAS through OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certification.
High-quality, responsible printing: Our products are printed using heat transfer sublimation, a printing technique that is widely considered to be the safest for both workers and the environment. It requires no water, eliminates dye from entering water systems, and minimizes ink and fabric waste. All the inks and dyes we use are also OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certified.
Recycled materials, minimal waste: Our commitment to environmental responsibility starts with sustainable fibers and yarns. We use synthetic yarns made from recycled plastic bottles, which helps remove and repurpose existing plastic.

While parrotfish come in many amazing colors and patterns, this print is inspired by a male, terminal phase spotted parrotfish, native to the Indo-Pacific. Considered the most effective reef grazer, parrotfish serve an important function in maintaining the health of coral reefs. In fact, a 2014 IUCN report surveyed the health of Caribbean coral reefs from 1970-2012 and found that one of the most impactful actions we can take to restore the health of coral reef habitat is to protect parrotfish!

If that isn’t reason enough to love these bright and beautiful fish, an individual poops up to 200 lbs of sand a year, a critical source of sediment for beaches! For example, in Vakkaru Island in the Maldives, a 2015 study found that over 85% of their beach sand had been produced by parrotfish!

Your support helps Reef Relief improve and protect our coral reef ecosystem through education, advocacy, and grassroots community efforts. They have a wide variety of programs educating the public about coral reefs and encouraging community action, including school programs, their Coral Camp for kids, organized clean-ups, stenciling storm drains to discourage dumping, as well as policy work with their straw and sunscreen campaigns.
I've been loving this brand from afar for a long time. After planning a snorkel trip to Roatan, I decided to finally pull the trigger. I ended up with both the Parrotfish sun suit and leggings - both in medium and I love them both. For reference, I'm 5'5", 135lbs with measurements of: Hips = 38.4, Waist = 30 and Bust of 35 (32 inch band size). The legging are long, but that is the design and they give you the ability to shorten as needed. I haven't shortened yet, but its nice to know thats an option.
I wore the sun suit and leggings daily on a trip to Roatan and loved everything about the pieces from sun protection, warmth and style! I did prefer to wear the sun suit and leggings over a bikini so that I could transition out of the suit in our outdoor shower more easily. The leggings were my favorite, giving so much versatility to either pair with the sun suit, with a bikini or wear with one of my rashguards. (The leggings look beautiful with various pinks and blues!) The colors of the parrotfish patter are so fun - I'm really happy with my purchase and can't wait to wear locally for paddleboard adventures this summer. I'll be tempted to use them for any outdoor yoga adventures as well.
Side note - I also traveled with some 2mm neoprene pants that have always been my go-to for snorkeling or scuba in warm water for sun and sting protection. I didn't wear the neoprene leggings at all because I loved the pockets in these leggings so much. I used the pockets daily for either my underwater camera or for storing garbage I picked up.
The Parrotfish Protection Leggings have true to life, neon colors and patterns - practically psychedelic! The design will have me fitting right in with the reef fish in the Florida Keys! The leggings are very high quality, super comfortable, true to size ( L for me, at 5'4" and dare I say it? around 160 lbs). Deep twin pockets, with design matched for flawless visuals, are super handy and solidly stitched. When people ask, and they always do, "Where did you get those?" I always refer them to the Waterlust website. It's really informative, user friendly and features REAL PEOPLE wearing the gear, not models. Someday, I may have one of each design! Do yourself and the planet a favor, and check out Waterlust. You won't be disappointed!
