Whale Shark Warrior Cropped Rashguard

Educational resources & donation included with every purchase. Learn more.

Our rashguards are built with the same signature fabric as our leggings and are designed to keep you equally protected from stinging ocean critters and the fireball in the sky. Perfect for diving, surfing, or wherever your adventures take you.

Characteristic spots and stripes adorn the largest fish in the sea forming an intricate pattern, like a warrior painted for battle. Scientists use these distinctive markings to identify individual whale sharks. Like a fingerprint, each is as unique and special as the last.

Advocate Apparel Inspired by the largest fish in the sea, the whale shark (Rhincodon typus)

Whale sharks (Rhincodon typus) are fish, not whales - allowing them to hold the esteemed title of "largest fish in the sea" (since sharks are fish too!). These charismatic creatures can reach lengths of 12 meters (40 feet) or more! Despite their large size, they feed on some of the smallest organisms in the sea, plankton. Hanging vertically in the water column they're able to suction feed and filter these tiny organisms through their gill rakers much like a giant vacuum cleaner pulls dust and dirt from a kitchen floor, filtering the fragments into its chamber within.

Unfortunately, approximately 100 million sharks are killed every year by humans, through direct targeted fishing efforts as well as unintended bycatch from other fisheries. The whale shark is one species of shark that is particularly vulnerable to this commercial fishing due to their high value in international trade, in addition to their highly migratory nature and normally low abundance. Research into the lives of these gentle giants can help us to manage their populations and keep these magnificent fish in the ocean where they belong.

“Waterlust's support provides critical seed funding for us to rapidly develop and implement whale shark conservation projects in areas where this globally-endangered species is most at risk. This includes Mozambique, where our research and awareness work helped the government decide to fully protect whale sharks just a few weeks ago. We love working with a company that is so committed to making a positive change in the world.”

Just what I needed!

This rash guard is amazing. I love the pattern and that even though it’s a thick material, I don’t get too warm when outside in the sun on a hot day. The neck fits a little odd and felt barely too tight, but it might be my body type. At least it keeps most of my neck from seeing the sun!

Amazing!

I love this! I’m a camp counselor, so I’m in and out of the water all day. I don’t have to worry about SPF, and my campers love my “shark shirt”!

Pretty and protective!

I originally got this cropped rash guard because the full-length rash guard was sold out - and now I'm so glad I did! It's great sun protection along with the cuteness of a crop top. It only leaves a little band of exposed skin with the matching shorts I bought and it goes really well over the matching swim "top." And it dries so quickly in the sun after you're finished wearing it!

Comfortable and Perfect Sun Coverage

I got the Whale Shark cropped rashgaurd. It’s very comfortable. Like the feel of the fabric is nice as well. I love the print, and let’s be honest a lot of them looked good so it was hard to choose.
I like that it has the thumb holes to keep the sleeves from riding up, the only issue, and it was really my own failing is it leaves your fingers uncovered so keep up the sunblocking or you will get a goofy tan on your hands like I did. Lol.

Perfect fit

I got two cropped rash guards, but this is my favorite print, so here goes:
It still fits me, even though it's meant for women and I'm a "testosterone-shaped" person (non-binary). I do not have breasts, but there is no gap where they would be, it just hugs my pecs and that feels very nice.
My go-to is to combine this with leggings for maximum sun protection, while still looking cute (and rocking multiple combinations). I'm okay with using extra sunscreen for my stomach and lower back:)
