The coral reef ecosystems that cover our globe provide essential food and habitat to over 25% of all marine life. The parrotfish is a common animal found among these ecosystems and are a crucial keystone species, responsible for cleaning the corals from harmful algae. The abundance of parrotfish can be related directly to the health of our coral reef ecosystems.

Advocate Apparel Inspired by the spotted parrotfish (cetoscarus ocellatus)

While parrotfish come in many amazing colors and patterns, this print is inspired by a male, terminal phase spotted parrotfish, native to the Indo-Pacific. Considered the most effective reef grazer, parrotfish serve an important function in maintaining the health of coral reefs. In fact, a 2014 IUCN report surveyed the health of Caribbean coral reefs from 1970-2012 and found that one of the most impactful actions we can take to restore the health of coral reef habitat is to protect parrotfish!

If that isn’t reason enough to love these bright and beautiful fish, an individual poops up to 200 lbs of sand a year, a critical source of sediment for beaches! For example, in Vakkaru Island in the Maldives, a 2015 study found that over 85% of their beach sand had been produced by parrotfish!

I couldn't be happier with this sun shirt. Extremely comfortable, fantastic print. Hood is large enough to be comfortable but not floppy.

Favorite Sunshirt for SUP

I'm fair skinned and almost burn just thinking about the sun. I spend a lot of time outside and I'm somewhat obsessed with sunshirts. I have a Patagonia sunshirt I wear hiking and the REI sunshirt in every color that I wear casually, but I just took up SUP and wanted to try something new. I got this top in Mighty and Legendary and while both fit, I kept the larger size because I wanted it slightly loose. I'm 5'5" 165lbs if that helps. The colors are super vibrant, I love the feel of the fabric, and the sleeve length and thumb hole design is perfect. I love the longer length for standing and having more coverage, and it settles in a good spot under my PFD when I'm active. I like the idea of a pony hole in the hood, but I don't use it as I wear a sun hat over my hood for more coverage and protection. Be cool if it was a vertical slit or fold or something to give the option for a low pony, but it's not an important feature for me. I do wish it had a drawstring like my Patagonia hood, but since I wear a hat I didn't have any issues with the hood moving around the way it's designed now. Fantastic shirt, 100% happy with my purchase and will definitely be adding more from this company to my collection!

Love this shirt!

Really love this shirt and I’m looking forward to wearing it out on our boat for the first time this weekend. Fit based on the size chart is accurate.

Very long sleeves and blouse length

I am 1.68 m and 100 kg, so not that small, but the length of the blouse is similar to a short dress. I don’t mind this, but for the sleeves it’s more difficult to adjust. At least 15 cm longer than necessary , and cannot be cut like the leggings.

Hi Ana! Thanks so much for providing this feedback! After looking into the measurements more, we noticed that we're grading the sizes up in length through the sleeves as the garment goes up in size. It's a great point that doing so is not necessary, as the sleeves are quite long on the larger sizes. For future production we will be standardizing the length on these sun shirts. Thanks again for pointing this out and for helping us improve!
