Spotted Eagle Ray Sun Suit

Educational resources & donation included with every purchase. Learn more.

Known for their beautiful and unique spot patterns, spotted eagle rays fill key roles in the marine ecosystem. As both predators and prey, they eat animals such as clams and conchs, while also being eaten by large sharks. Worldwide, more than one-quarter of marine rays are threatened with extinction from targeted fisheries, bycatch and loss of habitat.

Advocate Apparel Inspired by the spotted eagle ray (Aetobatus narinari)

It is illegal to fish for or kill this beautiful and charismatic ray in Florida waters, however they are not protected under federal laws and international protections are limited as well. The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), an organization that establishes the conservation status of species worldwide, lists them as near-threatened with a decreasing population trend.

In some countries, spotted eagle rays are harvested as food and are caught as bycatch (unintentional catch in commercial fisheries that target other species). Spotted eagle rays also face a variety of threats from habitat loss, harmful algal blooms, and entanglement in fishing gear. These threats, combined with their extremely low reproductive rate, make these rays vulnerable to population declines. To help create better conservation management plans for this species, Mote and other research institutions are defining the distribution, migration, feeding habits, growth rates, and reproductive biology of spotted eagle rays.

Great suits, Great company!

I own two of the suits and one pair of leggings and I love them! I waited a while before reviewing because I wanted to see how they held up. I'm happy to say that they are well made and worth the investment! They are my go-to for a day of play in the ocean! Sun protection, comfortable fit, and a little extra warmth in the cooler ocean water. I purchased my first suit a year ago and it looks as good now as it did then. The zippers on the suits are high quality and they glide easily using the attached string. The pockets in the leggings are a nice plus too. I like to keep chapstick in there so I can reapply without even leaving the water. For reference, I'm 5'5" and weigh 125 lbs., I purchased strong in both the suits and leggings.

Perfectly comfortable and flattering

This is my first Waterlust sunsuit and I am in love. I normally feel self-conscious in swimsuits but not in this one. So grateful! Adorable pattern also.

Amazing swimsuit!

When you dive every day, most of your shopping time for clothes is about swimsuits. I always try to shop eco responsible, but it is not easy for swimsuits. It is also hard to find swimsuits that protect you enough from the sun and are confortable to wear under a wetsuit. Waterlust has it all and the eagle ray swimsuit is amazing !

If you hesitate between 2 sizes, take the smallest one. The "Strong" size is slightly too large in the top part (like always for me), but it is ok.

If like me you hesitate to buy the swimsuit because it is pricey, it is true, but the quality of the product make it worth it, and It is nice to know that 10% of the profit will be donated to marine conservation and research project. The swimsuit is very confortable and it seems that it will last long. It is perfect for leisure or scientific diving but also for any aquatic sport, and it protect well my arms between the dives when I am on the boat.

Thank you Waterlust for your efforts to elaborate those products with recycled materials and to be completely transparent about the materials, transport, how it is done etc. We need more people like you in this world !
