Advocate Apparel Inspired by the largest fish in the sea, the whale shark (Rhincodon typus)

Whale sharks (Rhincodon typus) are fish, not whales - allowing them to hold the esteemed title of "largest fish in the sea" (since sharks are fish too!). These charismatic creatures can reach lengths of 12 meters (40 feet) or more! Despite their large size, they feed on some of the smallest organisms in the sea, plankton. Hanging vertically in the water column they're able to suction feed and filter these tiny organisms through their gill rakers much like a giant vacuum cleaner pulls dust and dirt from a kitchen floor, filtering the fragments into its chamber within.

Unfortunately, approximately 100 million sharks are killed every year by humans, through direct targeted fishing efforts as well as unintended bycatch from other fisheries. The whale shark is one species of shark that is particularly vulnerable to this commercial fishing due to their high value in international trade, in addition to their highly migratory nature and normally low abundance. Research into the lives of these gentle giants can help us to manage their populations and keep these magnificent fish in the ocean where they belong.

“Waterlust's support provides critical seed funding for us to rapidly develop and implement whale shark conservation projects in areas where this globally-endangered species is most at risk. This includes Mozambique, where our research and awareness work helped the government decide to fully protect whale sharks just a few weeks ago. We love working with a company that is so committed to making a positive change in the world.”

Great fit and awesome construction

I ordered this sun suit not only for its beauty but it's practicality. I take medication which makes my skin very sensitive to sunlight but I love being outdoors and love swimming. This suit is made extremely well and the fit is amazing. I was a bit back and forth on the sizing but settled on the 'Mighty' and it's perfect. The material is very nice and much thicker than other sun suit types I've purchased in the past.

Monika Kater (Bentonville, AR, US)
WOW !! this item is quality !

i was very surprised at the material ! It is thick yet comfortable. Doesnt feel like regular thin rashguard material. Highly would recommend this product. The item itself is gorgeous. Fits true to size ( maybe a little large ) but perfect.

K Smith (Scotts Valley, CA, US)
like a thin wetsuit

I haven't worn this in the water yet, only tried it on, but my observations so far are as follows. I like it, it's big enough for me, and I'll use it, but it's not stretchy and presents challenges to me in donning and doffing. I am 6 ft, 160 lbs, and ordered an M.
--This is long enough for me in legs and arms, which is awesome! I will be wearing for full sun protection, so I'm not trimming the legs at all, and they do just reach my ankles.
--It is very tight around legs and arms, but a bit roomy around my torso. I'm not especially muscular. I'm not sure a really muscular person could get this on over their legs, as the material does not stretch.
--Getting this on and off is similar to a wetsuit: not easy. It's not stretchy like a usual bathing suit, so there's a lot of wriggling and tugging involved, and when removing it you peel it off inside out. If you're a person (like me) that can start to feel panicky when "trapped" in clothing you can't get on or off, this suit requires some calming deep breathing. Maybe other reviews mention this and I didn't see them, but I sort of wish I'd known.
--Overall, I am glad to have something that covers my full body, and I think with a lot of tugging and wriggling I can get used to this suit. And I will look neat snorkeling, as I love the pattern.

It’s a Christmas present for my daughter. She already has the shark collection.

Full body whale shark sunsuit

I love the fit and feel of this full body suit. I was hesitant to commit to a full suit but it really looks amazing. Can't wait to SCUBA next month with it in Cozumel. LOVE all of your products!

AnneS (San Francisco, CA, US)
Love it!

Haven’t tested it out in the water yet but it fits beautifully! Can’t wait for more patterns to come out
