The coral reef ecosystems that cover our globe provide essential food and habitat to over 25% of all marine life. The parrotfish is a common animal found among these ecosystems and are a crucial keystone species, responsible for cleaning the corals from harmful algae. The abundance of parrotfish can be related directly to the health of our coral reef ecosystems.

Advocate Apparel Inspired by the spotted parrotfish (cetoscarus ocellatus)

While parrotfish come in many amazing colors and patterns, this print is inspired by a male, terminal phase spotted parrotfish, native to the Indo-Pacific. Considered the most effective reef grazer, parrotfish serve an important function in maintaining the health of coral reefs. In fact, a 2014 IUCN report surveyed the health of Caribbean coral reefs from 1970-2012 and found that one of the most impactful actions we can take to restore the health of coral reef habitat is to protect parrotfish!

If that isn’t reason enough to love these bright and beautiful fish, an individual poops up to 200 lbs of sand a year, a critical source of sediment for beaches! For example, in Vakkaru Island in the Maldives, a 2015 study found that over 85% of their beach sand had been produced by parrotfish!

I love this suit!

The suit arrived on time and fit perfectly. After surfing in it for several days now I can report that it's great! Good coverage on the bottom has prevented any embarrassing "wardrobe malfunctions." It's snug and at the same time stretchy enough to paddle without resistance or chaffing. It both looks and feels great. And I love that the ocean conservation ethic of Waterlust aligns so well with my values. I'm 5'7, 125 lbs and ordered a size small.

I love this suit!

I ordered this suit for a surf trip to Costa Rica and after several days of surfing in it, I can report that it fits really well, does not ride up on the bottom (no embarrassing "wardrobe malfunctions"), and allows me to stretch to paddle without resistance. It looks and feels great! I am really loving it. If I could change one tiny thing it would be to make the neck very slightly less tight. I feel good wearing the suit knowing the ocean conservation ethic of the company that makes it. That value is super important to me. I'm 5'7, 125 lbs, and got a size small.

Wonderful quality with a few drawbacks

Wonderful fabric, vibrant colors and soft feel. However, even though the suit for my torso beautifully, there was zero support for my breasts, which are full. Being older, my flexibility is a bit tight and trying to zip/unzip the suit was a little difficult. I’m bummed the suit didn’t work out better because it really is gorgeous.

Made quite the splash out on the water.

Bought the Parrotfish sun protection suit for a surf trip in Costa Rica. Bought a Medium (5’6” & 143lbs) which was a perfect fit. Loved the look, feel, sun protection and thumb holes to keep it all in place. The suit is a bit thick which I’m going to love in colder waters but was a bit warm for tropical waters. Not sure it improved my surfing but I got lots of compliments.
