Abalone is the common name for a variety of marine snails that are found throughout the world’s oceans. Sought after for their meat and their beautiful shells, populations have declined rapidly and some species are now critically endangered.

Our relationship with abalone illustrates the challenges of overexploitation of the marine environment. Until the 1980s, it was widely thought that abalone populations were resilient and could effectively rebound from harvesting activities. Unfortunately, that has not proven to be true.

Abalone are “broadcast spawners,” meaning that two individuals must be within three feet of one another to sexually reproduce. This type of reproduction makes population recovery very challenging, driving the need for humans to intervene.

Not seamless, painful

This top has a very tight, gathered elasticed seam at the bottom. It is not seamless like the description/photos show. It is painfully tight where at the seam is even though I sized up, especially on the ribs . There is no way I can use this top for a day on the water- it hurts to have it on within minutes. This is the 3rd top I've ordered. The first 2 were the whale shark print. My measurments are well within the 2x size, however I found the first top I ordered was a bit tight. The second top I ordered I sized up to the 3x size hoping it would be more comforable, however the top was even smaller than the 2x and the material was stiffer! Very disapoined, especially when this is very expensive plus the high shipping cost. The prints are beautiful but this top is unusable. Each top I've ordered has been completely different in cut, size and even fabric texture. The photo is of the 2x first top compared to the new top.

I am so sorry to hear that our new reversible top design was not a good fit! Based on previous feedback, we recently made some design changes to our XL-3XL tops to provide more support and coverage for our customers with larger busts. We added more coverage around the armpits, an elastic band at the base of the top to prevent rolling and provide extra support, and slightly thicker straps to ensure no pressure and additional comfort. These changes are so new that we have yet to update the site to reflect the new appearance, with the print carrying over to the solid side to accommodate for the elastic on the XL-3XL sizes. We include a note in all orders that receive these new tops to explain these changes but it sounds like we did not include this note in yours. Our sincerest apologies for that!!

These tops are great as they are nice thick material. I went by the size chart and the helpful photos of different sized models wearing them and got the perfect fit. It is refreshing to see different shapes and sizes modelling as I am overseas and so wanted to avoid having to try lots of sizes and send some back with expensive shipping charges. Thanks Waterlust!
