Characteristic spots and stripes adorn the largest fish in the sea forming an intricate pattern, like a warrior painted for battle. Scientists use these distinctive markings to identify individual whale sharks. Like a fingerprint, each is as unique and special as the last.
Men’s leggings, meggings, tights, compression pants, dive skins… whatever you like to call them, they’re engineered specifically for the fellas and built to protect watermen from sunburn, board rash, jelly and coral stings.
Main fabric: 88% Repreve® RPET (recycled polyester made from post-consumer plastic bottles), 12% spandex

Whale sharks (Rhincodon typus) are fish, not whales - allowing them to hold the esteemed title of "largest fish in the sea" (since sharks are fish too!). These charismatic creatures can reach lengths of 12 meters (40 feet) or more! Despite their large size, they feed on some of the smallest organisms in the sea, plankton. Hanging vertically in the water column they're able to suction feed and filter these tiny organisms through their gill rakers much like a giant vacuum cleaner pulls dust and dirt from a kitchen floor, filtering the fragments into its chamber within.
Unfortunately, approximately 100 million sharks are killed every year by humans, through direct targeted fishing efforts as well as unintended bycatch from other fisheries. The whale shark is one species of shark that is particularly vulnerable to this commercial fishing due to their high value in international trade, in addition to their highly migratory nature and normally low abundance. Research into the lives of these gentle giants can help us to manage their populations and keep these magnificent fish in the ocean where they belong.
The Marine Megafauna Foundation is helping to shed light on the population structure, migratory patterns, and the conservation requirements of these threatened sharks. Created in 2009, they aim to research, protect and conserve the large populations of marine megafauna (large marine species) found along the Mozambican coastline. Almost all whale sharks encountered by divers are juveniles and most are males. Where the school-bus-sized mature sharks swim, what they eat, and where the females give birth has long been a mystery, however their team is now very close to making these discoveries. 5% of sales from your purchase will go to the Marine Megafauna Foundation for satellite tags that are needed to track the movements of these large female whale sharks.
“Waterlust's support provides critical seed funding for us to rapidly develop and implement whale shark conservation projects in areas where this globally-endangered species is most at risk. This includes Mozambique, where our research and awareness work helped the government decide to fully protect whale sharks just a few weeks ago. We love working with a company that is so committed to making a positive change in the world.”

After trying and returning a pair of swim leggings "for men" purchased from Amazon, I couldn't be happier with my purchase from Waterlust. These leggings are actually designed for men, and the build quality is exceptional. Thick, stretchy, and comfortable fabric shows no signs of wear after using them several times in a pool and then on week+ vacation to Hawaii where we did lots of snorkelling and water activities. I loved not having to put on as much sunscreen. If you are in the market for a pair of swim leggings, I highly recommend possible spending the extra money and getting these. Definitely worth it.
One note: I was a little skeptical about having the waistband tie on the outside, but after using them I think this is right design choice. The coreless paracord used for the waist string would be uncomfortable if it tied on the inside, but on the outside they are comfy and seem very durable. Love the metal grommets where the waist string comes out of the fabric. Great attention to detail in the design.
My sweet partner born in the Midwest has only adopted marine exploration since he started dating me, at this point in my life simply a citizen marine scientist. His Waterlust gear has always performed exceptionally….even up to his high standards as an engineer. His dive leggings are another exceptional product with the added bonus of helping him look like the Abarracuda and Fish model he is! 🥰 Perfect for La Jolla cove snorkeling, and he loves the fit, comfort and fashion. Thanks Waterlust!
Comfortable, easy to don and remove (L)egendary perfect fit for me—71 yo, 5’8”, 170# with no adjustments
I got these leggings to wear kayaking (specifically for taking out lots of different demo boats for lunch time paddle sessions from my shop's fleet). Hopping in for such a quick paddle often means not taking the time to really get the outfitting set up super well. The leggings have been super comfortable to wear even in boats with less than optimal outfitting--and as an added bonus, it's kind of nice to have a barrier between my legs and the sometimes river funk-i-fied demo kayaks. I know all the whitewater paddle bros think surf trunks are the cool way to go, but from a purely practical sense, leggings make a lot of sense--I think these will be my go-to choice this summer.
The pattern is beautiful, they fit great, and I feel like Aquaman
My only suggestion for improvement is the draw string. It’s tiny, and a tight knit will eventually be difficult to untie.
