Intimidating stripes cover one of the ocean’s largest apex predators. Advocate Apparel Inspired by tiger sharks (Galeocerdo cuvier)

Tiger sharks are classified by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) as “Near Threatened”, and thus, research, education and outreach is essential to ensuring healthy populations. As one of the ocean’s largest predators, these critical species sit at the top of the food chain, helping to regulate the delicate balance of populations of those beneath in the ecosystem. Decreased populations can result in trophic cascades, impacting the abundance and behavior of other species lower on the food chain.

Multiple research methods have shown that some species of sharks have declined in population by 90% or more during the last several decades in areas where they were formerly abundant. These declines are due to direct targeting in commercial fisheries, mostly for their fins and sometimes meat. Additionally, sharks are often caught unintentionally as bycatch in many other fisheries, caught and killed in some recreational fisheries (unlike catch and release), and may also be impacted by humans more indirectly through threats like habitat loss, pollution, and human-driven declines in the fish species sharks rely on for food.

"We are so proud of our collaboration with Waterlust. Not only does their support help enable our shark conservation research, but the apparel itself is a walking billboard for marine conservation. I love it when people on the street stop to ask me about my tiger shark board shorts. It's an opportunity to start a conversation about the wonders and perils faced by sharks and how the average person can help make a difference.”

Too Small

The 3XL shirt is the size of a XL in comparison to other brands. It is a gorgeous shirt but just too little.

Breathable Comfortable Design

My partner states that this sun shirt is breathable and comfortable with a great design. Fits true to size. When asked how it performs in Texas heat, he noted this sun shirt feels cooler than other brands of sun shirts he owns.

Love these shirts

I now own three Waterlust sun shirts, and I couldn't be happier with them. They are exceptionally comfortable and keep you cool under hot conditions as advertised. I found they also are great to wear snorkeling for sun protection when in the water. I have thinning hair, so when I'm snorkeling, I put the hood on before I put my mask on so that the top of my head doesn't get sunburned. I also think the shirts look good, so I don't feel like I need to change into something else to wear around town after a day on the water. They seem well made. They are worth the money, and part of the puchase goes to worthy conservation causes.

Shark on a kayak

My wife and I both acquired Sun shirts, hers is the Sun Kissed Sea, and mine the Tiger Shark Trailblazer. We got them for use during our kayaking adventures. Today, we both went out on our colorful, head turning garments.
We wanted to enhance face protection, and have long sleeves, since we live in the tropics. We use zinc oxide sun screen, paddling head gear, but we wanted yet another layer of protection, without frying under the sun.
These shirts are awesome! The hood protects what the other items can't, the long sleeves cover our arms, and the material is breathable and cool.
Thank you so much, we'll be coming back for more!
