Waterlust in the wild

64% OF AFRICAN AMERICAN CHILDREN DON’T KNOW HOW TO SWIM AND IN THE US, THEY ARE THREE TIMES MORE LIKELY TO DROWN THAN CAUCASIAN CHILDREN.

According to a 2011 study between the YMCA and the Center for Disease Control & Prevention, this unacceptable disparity is driven by institutional racism, myths and stereotypes that affect swimming participation, and the inherited fears that they create. Learning to swim is not only a critical survival skill, but it opens the pathway to water-related activities like SCUBA diving, sailing, and surfing, which are often the foundations on which a career in marine science is built.

As a species, if we want to solve the complex problems surrounding the environmental crisis, we need the brightest and most talented minds to participate. In the world of marine science, that isn’t happening because people are getting turned away from the water at the very beginning.

“Waterlust support has provided critical programmatic resources to ensure that our Black Girl Dive Scholars are able to explore and develop their STEM identity in a supportive space. Our program participants are engaged in conservation initiatives and activities that are critical in supporting marine ecosystems. All monies used through the Waterlust initiative go directly to these initiatives and include travel, lodging, and supplies. The experiences that our participants receive are transformational and provides them an opportunity to look at academic and respective career pathways that they would not normally consider.”

Cute T-shirt with a great cause!

Love my shirt! The fit is perfect!

Lovely but runs SUPER small

This is a really nice tank; great quality and I love the graphic. Sadly it runs REALLY small. I had originally bought the t-shirt with the same design but that ran large and it was unisex so kinda shapeless on a curvy person, and Waterlust kindly exchanged it. I will keep the tank and gift it or donate it because it DID warn on the purchase page that they ran small (I just didn't realize quite that small) and Waterlust already went above and beyond getting the replacement to me. No hesitation whatsoever in recommending Waterlust or the other items I purchased!

Super soft and cute! Size up!

I love this shirt! It's super soft and didn't shrink a whole lot when washed. I ordered a large when I normally wear a smaller medium and it fits great. It's looks great and it's for a great cause. I highly recommend, but make sure to size up!

Good look and feel

I'm happy with the appearance and feel of the tank. Initially I felt that the top was a bit more snug than I prefer, however, after wearing for a short time I discovered that the material has a bit more stretch than I thought, and it ended up fitting quite nicely--without losing the shape of the top. Looking forward to taking it on my next dive trip

Love it but can’t wear it

I love EVERYTHING behind the concept of this cause and that’s why I’m still ok with the purchase, however, the 2x is not true to size. Please consider going up in sizes. Big women swim too!!!

Hi Devon - thanks so much for sharing your feedback! We do agree that these definitely run small and it's something we're actively working on. Inclusivity and accurate sizing is important to us, and we recognize that we've fallen short on that here. We do also have this design in a unisex sized tee (XS-3XL), and we're working on modifying the sizing of the tanks. Thanks again for taking the time to provide your thoughts!

Super soft! 5’7 120# M

Tank is super soft, exchange was easy when I needed to go up a size because the size small was tight against my armpits. I’m 5’7” and 120# and I needed a Medium. The logo is a little more faded looking than I expected but not in a bad way! Just not super vibrant. But I like it this way!
