Iridescent blues, metallic silvers and golden copper hues flash and reflect the light as a sailfish shifts its colors with it’s changing mood. Specialized, pigment containing cells within the skin called chromatophores and iridophores receive signals from the nervous system, resulting in a startling display of colors from what many consider to be the fastest fish in the sea.

Advocate Apparel Inspired by sailfish (Istiophorus)

Sailfish (Istiophorus), also known as billfish (along with swordfish, marlin, and spearfish) are characteristically known for their elongated nasal bones which form the “bill”, and their dorsal fin (known as a sail) that stretches the length of their back. Their aerodynamic bodies and long bills are built for speed, and many consider them to be the fastest fish in the ocean. This speed, agility, and dynamic nature make them one of the world's most renowned sportfish for recreational anglers.

Our purpose in creating this print is to tell the story of these fish and capture some of the iridescent colors that make them so special. As one of the ocean's top predators, they play an important role in the ecosystem and as prized sportfish they sustain important recreational fisheries, making them both economically and culturally important. We believe fishermen (and women!) can be some of the strongest advocates for the ocean and the species that inhabit it. Our Tag & Release Sailfish print represents this exciting species and promotes responsible fishing practices. These include tag & release fishing and minimizing the stress experienced by a fish while caught. Continued research, education, and responsible policy management benefits both sailfish populations and the recreational fishing industry that advocates for them.

"Waterlust's partnership with The Billfish Foundation is invaluable. Through their products and platform, we can introduce people to billfish (possibly for the first time) and their importance to the ecosystem and communities alike. The funding from their advocacy apparel supports the projects that are the cornerstones (research, advocacy, and education) of TBF’s success in billfish conservation."

So glad I gave it a try

The material of this top is super comfortable. It fits well and offers decent coverage up top, which is something I’ve always struggled to find in bathing suites. I haven’t worn anything that shows my midriff in years. But for such a beautiful design and cause I chose to give it a try. Just worn it on my family vacation, it was a great conversation starter; more importantly I looked and felt amazing.

New fave

I love this reversible top. It's the first thing I tried from Waterlust and I have to admit I was skeptical. But skeptic no more! The fabric feels really soft but just compressive enough to also feel supportive. How, no idea. lol I would buy 5 more if they offer a longer option option (ie to the waist, not leaving the belly bare). Not a criticism of this one, but for my life a longer one would be even better. If you're on the fence about this top, BUY IT. It won't disappoint.

Perfection

The material is the softest thing I've ever put on my body, and the size fit PERFECTLY! I Also love the reversible patterns, and can't tell which side I love more! Great product, great cause, will definitely purchase more in the future!

I was waiting for a top to match my leggings and these fit the bill! (Pun intended.) Love the pattern of both the “fish” and the “fin” of the sailfish! Compared to the previous tops, this updated version seems to be thicker fabric and provides more support. 5 stars.

Print is even better in person!!

I adore Waterlust and have been a devoted fan girl since the beginning. I recently (aug 2020) ordered this and another top in a diff print and am so sad to see that the fabric has changed from the top fabric of about a year or two ago when these first came out. Now the fabric is much thicker and less stretchy, which, depending on your needs, might be great. But for me, I think I’ve worn my old tops every day during the pandemic because they are SO comfortable- thinner, stretchier material but still somehow magically supportive.

If you’re looking for a higher impact more control top, these are gonna be your jam, and you’ll rock in style!!!

But @waterlust, if you have any of the older style stretchy lounge versions lying around in a l/xl, holla id love to take them off your hands!
